From Providence Prayer Ministry by Marilyn Krichbaum
On Saturday March 3rd, there was an article on the Religion Page in the Blade. Dr. Larry Dossey wrote the article and he believes “there is more to medicine than meets the eye.” For instance “How does a Dr. explain a miracle cure?” Dr. Dossey told a story about his first year of medicine. He assigned an elderly hospital patient whose lung cancer was so widespread that he could offer no medical treatment. The man only wanted to go home and die. The only treatment this man received was the people from his church would come to visit him through all the visiting hours. They would ring his bedside and pray like crazy for this man. Dr. Dossley sent him home expected him to be dead in 2 or 3 days. A year later another Dr. told him “you need to come by and see your old patient. He’d really like to talk to you.” The man given up for dead was in the hospital with the flu but completely free of lung cancer even though the patient did not receive chemo, radiation or surgery.” There is no scientific evidence that the prayers cured this man but we who believe that God answers prayers have no doubt.
This Dr. Dossley gave a talk on “Healing Words: The power of prayer and the practice of medicine” at the Dane Conference at MUO. On Saturday AM the Saturday before he spoke, Shelly Brown interviewed a women from Komen for the Cure and Dr. John Deldmeier who heads the Oncology Dept. at the hospital. I was really pleased to hear that he believes that prayer works-what was really special for me is that he is my Oncologist.
